Super-Angulon-R 21mm f4, 3-cam version. Serial number in the 2,390,000 range, manufactured in 1970. Leitz catalog number 11813.
The minimum focusing distance is 0.2m, with distance scales marked in both feet and meters. It accepts Series 8.5 filters held in place by the lens hood, or 72mm screw-in filters.
Introduced in 1968 for the Leicaflex SL, this long-selling lens remained in production until 1992. Although slower than its f3.4 predecessor, the rear element protrudes less, eliminating the need for mirror lock-up.
This was Leica's first retrofocus lens, manufactured by Schneider as an OEM product. It features 10 elements in 8 groups. With its sophisticated optical correction using numerous elements, it delivers low distortion, high resolution, and minimal light falloff toward the edges.
The lens was originally introduced with a 2-cam mount, with the 3-cam version appearing in 1977. This particular example was originally a 2-cam lens and has since been upgraded to 3-cam specifications.
The lens is in good overall cosmetic condition, showing only minor scuffs and small paint losses from normal use. The front section and the base with the depth-of-field scale have faded to a beautifully subdued tone, reminiscent of early Angénieux lenses, giving it a lovely vintage appearance.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate smoothly. The glass is clear and bright, with no scratches or haze. The optical condition is particularly good for a Super-Angulon, which is often prone to haze.
Comes with the 12506 hood and genuine front and rear caps.
