The Rollei 35, a masterpiece among compact cameras. This example is an early German-made model with a black paint finish.

Designed by Heinz Waaske, the Rollei 35 is a legendary compact 35mm camera that influenced many later camera designs. It was one of the smallest full-frame 35mm cameras ever made. With its collapsible lens retracted, it becomes remarkably compact and easy to take anywhere. It remains popular with a wide range of photographers, from film photography beginners to experienced enthusiasts. It also features a practical built-in exposure meter.

Although focusing is done by estimating the subject distance, the camera is surprisingly easy to use once you get accustomed to it. The 40mm lens offers a generous depth of field, making precise focusing less critical. With the focus set to 6m, everything beyond that distance is effectively in focus. The Tessar 40mm lens also delivers beautifully balanced images, with a wonderfully versatile angle of view.

The German-made black Rollei 35 is the most sought-after model in the series, but examples in good condition have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years.

There is one extremely shallow, tiny dent next to the shutter release button, barely visible under certain lighting angles, along with some light scuffs around the tripod socket on the bottom plate. Otherwise, the camera shows hardly any signs of use and is in very beautiful cosmetic condition.

The exposure meter was repaired and adjusted in October 2026. Film advance, shutter operation, and all dials feel smooth and operate properly. The exposure meter also provides sufficient accuracy for practical use.

The rear lens element shows slight coating deterioration, but this should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. Otherwise, the glass is clean and free from cleaning marks.

Comes with the original Rollei lens cap, strap, and case.
