Known as Heavy Cam in Japan and Snail Cam overseas, this version features an exceptionally thick, sloped rangefinder coupling cam. This type is found on early examples of the Elmar 35mm.
Compatible genuine Leitz lens hoods include the FLQOO and FOOKH. Our FB-07 Elmar 50mm hood also fits this lens.
On this particular example, a professional repair technician has secured the infinity lock pin so that it does not protrude. This prevents interference with L/M adapters, allowing the lens to be used smoothly on Leica M cameras, including digital M models. The modification can be reversed to restore the original configuration upon request.
This example has beautiful nickel plating, with very little wear or other signs of use. It would rank among the finest examples of the Heavy Cam type. Its condition is remarkable, especially considering that it was made nearly 100 years ago.
The lens had recently been overhauled by the previous owner, but the results were not entirely satisfactory. We therefore carried out a full overhaul in October 2026. Both the aperture and focusing helicoid now operate exceptionally smoothly, and rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
As beautiful as the exterior is, the glass is even more impressive. It is remarkably clear, with no noticeable scratches or haze. There is a very slight yellowish tint to the glass, but its optical condition is genuinely among the best we have seen in a Nickel Elmar. This is a lens that allows you to enjoy its original optical performance.
The results of our actual shooting tests were also outstanding. This Heavy Cam delivers remarkably crisp focus, with a sharpness that can be quite startling. It has a wonderful ability to isolate and capture a subject with striking definition.
Comes with an original Bakelite front cap and a black-painted brass rear cap.
