A Leica CL paired with its standard lens, the Summicron-C 40mm f2. The product code for the set with the 40mm lens is 11542. This compact Leica was introduced in 1973 through the collaboration between Leitz and Minolta. This example has a serial number in the 1.32 million range and was made in 1973/74.

It features mechanisms different from the M-series, including a 40mm frame line and a vertically traveling shutter. The viewfinder also includes 50mm and 90mm frame lines. Compact yet equipped with all the essential functions, the CL is a superb camera whose qualities become more apparent the more you use it.

The Summicron-C offers a wonderfully versatile 40mm angle of view, making it an excellent choice for snapshots and travel photography. Its minimum focusing distance of 80cm is another welcome feature.

Series 5.5 filters are fitted inside the rubber lens hood. E39 filters can also be inserted, but the thread pitch is different, so they will only screw in partway.

This set was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner. This will be the third time we have offered it for sale.

There is a very slight loss of black chrome finish along the edge of the base, and some finish wear from a strap ring around the lower strap lug. However, considering that most Leica CL cameras have seen extensive practical use, this is a very clean set overall.

Both the body and lens received a full overhaul in 2025 when we first sold them. All functions remain in good working order, and the exposure meter is also working properly.

The Summicron-C lens has two or three very fine cleaning marks on the rear element, but these are unlikely to have any noticeable effect on photographs. Otherwise, the glass is clear and bright with no haze.
