Summilux-M 35mm f1.4, 2nd version. This is the final version of the spherical model, commonly known as the Hyphen-M. Made in Canada. The Leitz product code is 11870, unchanged from the original Steel Rim version. Serial number in the 3.28 million range, made in 1983. 7 elements in 5 groups. Minimum focusing distance is 1m. The correct hood is the 12504. Series 7 filters are mounted inside the 12504 hood.
The 2nd version Summilux 35mm was produced from 1961 to 1995 without a major model change, making it one of Leica's longest-running lenses. It remains very popular even today.
Much has already been said about its rendering, but one of its greatest attractions is the dramatic change in character between wide open and stopped down. At full aperture, it produces a dreamy, soft rendering. As the aperture is stopped down, sharpness and contrast increase dramatically, giving images a strong sense of depth. It is a highly expressive and remarkably versatile lens.

This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its previous owner.
It has been very well cared for and remains in exceptionally clean condition with virtually no signs of use. Even the front edge of the barrel, which is particularly prone to paint loss from attaching and removing the hood, shows no noticeable wear.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was completed in 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on even wide open, and focus is excellent.
Matching its beautiful exterior, the glass is also very clean, with no haze or noticeable cleaning marks. It is clear and bright throughout. Results from our shooting test were also very good.
Includes the original front and rear caps, a very clean 12504 hood, a Series 7 filter with its original box, and the lens original box. The plastic front cap has been modified with an air hole to make it easier to attach and remove.
An excellent choice for both collection and practical use.
