Summaron 3.5cm f3.5 in Leica M mount. This version uses E39 filters and accepts IROOA and ITDOO lens hoods. The Leitz code is SOONC-M. 6 elements in 4 groups. Serial number in the 1.27 million range, made in 1955. The helicoid distance scale is marked in meters.
Although this example predates the introduction of the Leica M2, it has been modified to bring up the 35mm frame lines. Unmodified examples normally bring up the 50mm frame lines.
The Summaron 3.5cm f3.5 is known for its rich, mellow rendering. The dramatic fall-off toward the edges also gives images the distinctive atmosphere of a classic lens, while the plane of focus is rendered with plenty of definition and solidity. This E39 version is also an excellent match for Leica M cameras.
The exterior is quite clean, showing only a few minor scuffs. It should also pair naturally with a clean camera body.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid, which on Summaron lenses can often feel stiff and somewhat rough, have been transformed and now operate remarkably smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.
The rear element shows a somewhat noticeable amount of cleaning marks, but the glass itself is clear and bright with no haze. Our test shots also produced good results. Contrast may drop under strong backlighting or similarly demanding conditions, but for general photography, the lens should still perform very well.
A practical E39 Summaron that has been carefully and thoroughly serviced. Offered at a special price.
