Rolleiflex 4x4, postwar model, commonly known as the Black Baby Rolleiflex. Uses 127 film in the 4x4 format. The focusing knob is marked in meters.

Its design looks almost like a full-size Rolleiflex for 120 film scaled down in every dimension. It retains the unmistakable character and presence of a Rolleiflex, while also having plenty of charm.

According to reference materials, the Grey Baby was produced from 1957 to 1961, while this Black Baby version was made only from January to May 1963, with total production said to have been no more than around 3,000 units.

We acquired this example from a Baby Rolleiflex collector in Japan. It comes with a very nice selection of accessories, making it a set that clearly reflects the previous owner's appreciation for Rolleiflex cameras.

A rare piece.

There are noticeable signs of use throughout, including wear to the black paint, wear to the leather covering, and numerous scratches around the filter rim from attaching and removing the hood. However, there are no noticeable dents or impact marks, and overall it gives the impression of having been carefully used and well cared for. The previous owner also enjoyed actually shooting with it, and a test print is included.

Fully overhauled in September 2026. There is very slight coating deterioration on an inner element of the taking lens, but this should have virtually no effect on actual images.

The rare black hood made specifically for the Black Baby Rolleiflex is included, and the cap, leather case, and strap are also in quite good condition.

One important point when operating the Baby Rolleiflex: when firing the shutter without film loaded, be sure to open the focusing hood and fully turn the winding knob before releasing the shutter.
