Leica A / DII Black / Chrome

Item No. 026978

※About rarity

This is an early Leica Model A from 1928 that was upgraded by Leitz after the war to DII specifications. This was an official Leitz factory modification, generally referred to overseas as a Factory Conversion. The serial number is 93xx, an early four-digit number.

At the time of the conversion, the original nickel-finished parts were most likely replaced with chrome-finished parts. An early Elmar in chrome finish would make the most period-correct combination.

The combination of black paint and chrome plating also greatly broadens the choice of matching lenses. For those who do not need slow shutter speeds, the compact sheet-metal body shape of these early Leicas offers excellent handling. Even better, this example is fitted with strap lugs and diopter adjustment, making it highly practical for actual use.

Rather than simply calling it a Leica DII, perhaps DII.5 would be a better way to describe it.

This is an item previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by the previous owner and has now returned to us.

There are some minor paint losses and small areas of touch-up around the edges of the top cover and other upper body parts, but the overall condition of the paint and chrome plating is good. It is a very clean example for a Leica DII.

All functions are working properly. There is a very slight haze in the rangefinder, but it remains fully usable. Paid servicing is also available upon request.

Comes with the original Leica body cap.
