The Leica IIIg, the final model in the Barnack Leica series. Leitz product code GOOEF.

This example has a serial number in the 870,000 range and was made in 1957. It comes from the golden age of postwar Leitz in the late 1950s, when many fascinating Leica models appeared, including the Leica MP, black-paint M3, military olive models, and the Leica M2.

The IIIg was introduced three years after the Leica M3 debuted in 1954. Befitting a product from the golden age of Leitz, it was designed and manufactured with little compromise on cost, and its exceptional quality is apparent even just by looking at it. Technology from the Leica M3 was also incorporated, including parallax-corrected bright frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses.

The finder is also excellent, making the IIIg by far the easiest Barnack Leica to use.

Previously sold by our shop, this camera has returned to us after being carefully used by its owner. This will be the fourth time we have offered it for sale.

There are some light linear scratches around the accessory shoe and serial number, as well as on the base plate. Slight signs of use can also be seen around the film advance and strap lugs. There are no dents, impacts, or areas where the brass is showing, and overall the camera remains in very clean condition.

The original gutta-percha covering is also in good condition, retaining its pleasant, dry texture in the hand.

The camera was overhauled in 2024, and all functions including film advance, shutter, and self-timer continue to operate smoothly.

The finder is clear and bright, with good contrast in the rangefinder double image. A very clean and practical body for regular use.
