※About rarity

以下のように自然です。

Summaron 35mm f2.8. This example is the somewhat less common Leica screw-mount version. Serial number in the 1.8 million range, made in 1960, effectively the final year of the Leica IIIg. Leitz code SIMOO / 11006. Made in Germany. E39 filter thread.

Half a stop faster than its f3.5 predecessor, this newer Summaron uses new types of optical glass and features a double-Gauss design with 6 elements in 4 groups.

It shares its barrel design with the 8-element Summicron, giving it a stylish appearance. Mounted on a Barnack Leica such as the IIIf or IIIg, it looks particularly handsome.

Wide open, the overall rendering is gentle, while resolution remains good in the center, accompanied by dramatic corner falloff. A quietly popular lens, with some photographers even preferring it to the famous 8-element Summicron.

Compatible hoods include the ITDOO and IROOA.

There are a few very light scuffs on the aluminum around the front edge of the barrel, as well as a small mark near the base. Otherwise, there are only minimal signs of use, and the lens is in very clean cosmetic condition. It still retains much of the feel of a new lens from the period.

A full overhaul was completed in September 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid operate with a smooth, well-damped and very pleasant feel. Rangefinder coupling is also spot on.

There are a few light cleaning marks near the outer area of the front element, along with slight coating deterioration on an internal element. However, for the Summaron 35mm f2.8, a lens well known for developing haze, the glass is unusually clear and bright. The results of our shooting test were also very good. You can enjoy high contrast and crisp, well-defined resolution in the center.
