Summicron-M 35mm f2. This is the early version of the 3rd-generation Summicron, commonly known as the 7-element version. Its distinctive protruding focusing tab has earned it the nickname Tiger Claw overseas. The Leitz product code is 11310. Serial number in the 3.01 million range, manufactured in 1980 by Leitz Canada.

7 elements in 5 groups. A natural evolution of the Leica M wide-angle lens. Compared with the 1st-generation 8-element and 2nd-generation 6-element versions, the exterior design was greatly simplified, but its distinctive rendering remains a major attraction. It delivers rich tonal gradation together with very high resolving power, while the dense, smooth bokeh is particularly impressive. Overseas, it is also known as the Bokeh King for the quality of its out-of-focus rendering. Its minimal and functional design is another appeal. The lens weighs just 133g on our scale.

A 12524 hood is included. Classic Leica hoods such as the IROOA, 12585, and 12504 can also be used.

The exterior is in excellent condition, with virtually no signs of use. The chrome plating on the mount surface is also beautifully preserved and retains a fine shine.

A full overhaul was completed in September 2026. All controls now operate very smoothly. Unlike the slightly loose or rattly feel sometimes found on this 7-element Summicron, this example has a smooth, well-damped feel. Rangefinder coupling is also spot on.

There is some slight haze-like coating deterioration around the edges of the inner elements. We carried out a shooting test and could not detect any effect on actual images. No noticeable scratches are visible.

The original box, 12524 hood, B+W protective filter, and front and rear caps are included. The serial number on the box does not match the lens, and the inner packing is missing, but the box is from the same period. Please consider it a bonus item.
