Thambar-M 90mm f2.2 for Leica M mount. Serial number in the 4.69 million range, made in 2016. It was introduced in 2017 as the second lens in Leica’s series of revived classic lenses, following the red-scale Summaron. Leica product code 11697.

The original Thambar was introduced in 1935 as Leitz’s only dedicated soft-focus lens. This modern reproduction faithfully recreates the distinctive rendering and character of the original Thambar.

It features 4 elements in 3 groups. Its special optical design makes deliberate use of aberrations to produce a soft rendering. Minimum focusing distance is 1m. Filter size is E49.

The dedicated hood, center filter for increasing the soft-focus effect, caps, leather case, and other accessories are also designed as a tribute to those of the original Thambar, and are well made.

Using the supplied center filter produces an even softer rendering. Please note that the dimensions differ from those of the original Thambar, so the parts are not interchangeable.

There are some minor scuffs and slight areas of black paint loss, but the overall exterior condition is good. There are no deep scratches or dents.

All functions operate properly and smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is accurate. The glass is clear and bright, with no cleaning marks or haze, allowing you to enjoy the lens as it was intended. Our test shots also produced excellent results. The soft, beautiful flare has a magical quality that can transform an ordinary everyday scene into something extraordinary.

Included are the surprisingly large original box, dedicated center filter, dedicated hood and hood cap, M-mount rear cap styled after the original Leica L-mount rear cap, and leather case. The hood, center filter, and leather case show signs of use.
