Nikon Universal Finder MIOJ

Item No. 026956

※About rarity

A Nippon Kogaku erect-image universal finder, with a design closely resembling the Leitz VIDOM finder. Finished entirely in chrome plating.

The eyepiece is engraved NIPPON KOGAKU TOKYO. On the underside of the accessory shoe foot is a discreet Made In Occupied Japan, or MIOJ, engraving, indicating manufacture in Japan during the Allied occupation. One can imagine how those involved in its production at the time may have felt about this marking.

The finder can be switched between 35, 50, 85, and 135mm. Parallax correction is marked in feet. As it predates support for 28mm, there is no internal thread at the front for attaching a 28mm adapter.

According to R.J. Rotoloni's Nikon reference book, The Complete Nikon Rangefinder System, which is also available from our shop, this finder is classified as Type 3(B) and is one of approximately 500 examples with serial numbers ranging from M901120 to M901606.

It was supplied as a universal finder for the Nikon M. Although there is no marking to indicate it, the field of view is 24x34mm, making it suitable for the Nikon M, MS, and S.
