Triplet Elmar 90mm f4 with a 3-element, 3-group optical construction. This example is the somewhat rare Leica screw mount version. The Leitz product code is 11730U.
The serial number is in the 1.92 million range, dating it to 1962. The Triplet Elmar was introduced to the market in 1964. Incidentally, the M-mount version of this lens retained the same product code as the preceding Elmar 90mm with its 4-element, 3-group construction. Filter size is E39.
Although its maximum aperture of f4 is relatively modest, the lens itself weighs only 192g on our scale, making it an exceptionally portable medium telephoto. Thanks to its high resolving power and sharp rendering, it is nicknamed the Razor Elmar. It also offers excellent clarity and natural color rendition. The helicoid is positioned for easy operation, making this a very user-friendly lens. Compatible lens hoods are the IUFOO and 12575.
Production of the IIIg, the final Barnack Leica, had already ended in 1960, and when this 3-element Elmar appeared in 1964, the vast majority were produced in M mount. Only 543 examples were supplied in Leica screw mount. A rather rare lens indeed.

There are two small marks on the front edge of the barrel. Some light rubbing can also be seen on and around the knurled section of the helicoid, but nothing particularly noticeable. Overall, the lens has maintained a very clean appearance.
A full overhaul was carried out in 2017 when we last sold it. Thanks to the thorough servicing, both the aperture and helicoid still operate smoothly, and rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The inner lens elements show extremely slight coating deterioration that is barely visible even under a strong LED light, but this should have virtually no effect on actual images. Otherwise, the glass is clear and bright, with no fungus, haze, or noticeable scratches.
