Hektor 2.8cm f6.3 in chrome finish. Uncoated. Serial number in the 490,000 range, dating from 1939. Distance scale in feet. Continental aperture scale. The Leitz product code is HOOPYCHROM, also known as the white HOOPY.
Among the many Leica lenses, the Hektor 28mm is one of the smallest. Its compact size also makes it an excellent travel companion. It looks great not only on Barnack Leicas, but also on M-series bodies via an L/M adapter ring, where its extremely slim profile suits the camera beautifully. It pairs equally well with both chrome and black paint bodies. The original matching hood is the SOOHN, a charming little trumpet-shaped hood that looks especially attractive when fitted.
As this is an exceptionally thin and compact lens, please take extra care not to drop it. Like the Elmar 35mm, this is one of those lenses that can easily slip from your fingers during a lens change. This applies to any lens, of course, but it is always a good idea to change lenses as close to a low surface as possible.
Originally sold by our shop, this lens has now returned to us from one of our longtime customers after an amazing nine years!! It has been carefully used and remains in beautiful condition. Thank you very much 🙏
There are only a few very light signs of use. The chrome plating still has a beautiful finish, with no noticeable scratches. Even the mount surface remains very clean. Overall, it is in remarkably fine cosmetic condition, hard to believe for a lens that has been in practical use for nearly 90 years.
To ensure it is fully ready for its new owner, we carried out a full overhaul in September 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate with an exceptionally smooth and pleasant feel. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.
The glass is beautifully clear and bright, with no cleaning marks or haze. This should be an excellent example for enjoying the original character of this lens.
Original front and rear caps, as well as a black Bakelite case, are included. The Bakelite case is the same type used for the Elmar 35mm.
