Summicron 35mm f2, the second-generation 6-element version. Leica product code 11309. Serial number in the 2.71 million range, made in 1974. This is the later version without the protruding focusing tab. Made in Canada. E39 filter size.

Following the first-generation 8-element version, clean examples of this 6-element model have also become increasingly difficult to find.

Although it tends to be overshadowed by the 8-element Summicron, the 6-element version has plenty of appeal of its own. The helicoid has a nicely judged rotation, and the focusing knob fits naturally under the fingertip. Its slightly subdued color rendering and crisp yet not overly harsh image character are also part of its charm. Lightweight and compact, it pairs exceptionally well with Leica M cameras.

There is very slight black paint loss on the front edge of the barrel and along the edges of the aperture ring, but otherwise there are no noticeable scratches or scuffs, and the overall cosmetic condition is very clean. There are no dents or impact marks.

A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was completed in September 2026. Careful servicing has resulted in pleasant aperture click stops, smooth and well-damped helicoid operation, and excellent operation throughout. Rangefinder coupling is also spot on.

There is extremely minor coating deterioration on an inner element, along with a few very faint cleaning marks on the front and rear elements that are barely visible even under a loupe. None of these should have any noticeable effect on image quality. Test shots also produced excellent results.
