Reissue Elmar 50mm f2.8 in black finish, Leica M mount. Product code 11831. When it was revived in 1994 as the standard lens for the Leica M6J, the long-popular Elmar enjoyed a renewed surge in popularity. In 1995, production of the Elmar as a standalone lens began, and this reissue version became a regular part of the Leica lineup.

This example has a serial number in the 3.78 million range and was made in 1997. No 6-bit coding. While its design recalls the classic Elmar 5cm f2.8, it incorporates substantial improvements, including a straight helicoid.

The infinity lock was eliminated, giving the lens a cleaner and simpler appearance. The minimum focusing distance was also improved to 0.7m, allowing much closer focusing than the original version. At just 167g, it is also lightweight and compact.

While retaining the classic collapsible design, the lens has a modern finish and styling that pairs beautifully with both current Leica M cameras and digital M bodies.

There are virtually no signs of use. At a glance, it would be difficult to tell this example apart from a brand-new one. In superb condition and a perfect match for a clean camera body.

All functions operate properly. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.

Under close inspection with an LED light and loupe, an extremely slight degree of balsam separation can be seen along the edge of the rear element, but it should have virtually no effect on actual photography. Otherwise, there is no haze or noticeable damage, and the glass is beautifully clear and bright. Test shots also produced excellent results.

Comes with the leather case, 12550 hood, 13131 UVa filter, and original front and rear caps. The front cap shows somewhat more signs of use.
