Super-Angulon 21mm f3.4 with a chrome barrel. This ultra-wide-angle lens was made in 1963, with a serial number in the 1.96 million range. This example comes from the very first production batch. The Super-Angulon 21mm f3.4 starts from serial number 1967101, and this lens is only the 119th one produced.
The Leitz product code is 11103M. Although sold as a Leitz product, it was manufactured by Schneider. Rangefinder coupling works down to 1m, while scale focusing allows you to focus as close as 0.4m.
The filter size is E48. Alternatively, a Series 7 filter can be inserted between the lens and the 12501 hood.
Please note that this lens cannot be used with the Leica M5 or CL, as the rear element interferes with the light meter arm. On cameras with built-in metering such as the M6, the protruding rear element also blocks the metering cell, preventing accurate meter readings.
Despite these various limitations, this is a fascinating lens capable of producing images with a distinctive and unique character.
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner.
There are some light rub marks around the front of the barrel from attaching and removing the hood, along with a few areas of slight shine from normal use. Overall, however, the exterior remains quite clean. Considering that many chrome-barrel Super-Angulon 21mm f3.4 lenses have seen heavy use, this example is in particularly nice condition. The included hood is also very clean.
A full overhaul was completed in 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid continue to operate smoothly with a very pleasant feel.
There are two or three extremely faint cleaning marks on the front element, but otherwise the glass is clear and bright, with none of the haze or cleaning marks often seen on Angulon lenses. The glass is exceptionally clean for a Super-Angulon 21mm f3.4. Test shots also showed consistently excellent performance, even wide open.
