Topcor-S 5cm f2, a standard lens made by Tokyo Kogaku for Leotax cameras. Leica screw mount with rangefinder coupling. 6 elements in 4 groups. The filter size is 40.5mm. This example is the mid-production version, featuring a black band around the aperture ring and helicoid index. The brass barrel gives the lens a satisfyingly substantial feel in the hand.

The aperture click stops are at the standard f2, f2.8, f4 and so on, while the scale itself is marked in 1/3-stop increments. Even the knob, which also serves as the infinity stop, is beautifully and carefully made. There is none of the roughness sometimes associated with Japanese Leica copies of the period. This is a lens that strongly reflects the earnest character of Tokyo Kogaku and its remarkably precise craftsmanship.

Its optical performance is equally impressive, delivering solid images even wide open. The sharply defined plane of focus contrasts with somewhat rugged, textured background bokeh, giving it plenty of classic vintage-lens character. Color rendition is also excellent, and we consider this a genuinely fine lens. Our staff member who tested it was especially impressed by the way it renders textures.

This item was previously sold by our shop and, after being carefully used by its owner, has now returned to us.

It remains in the same beautiful cosmetic condition as when we last sold it. There are some light signs of use, such as minor rubbing, but the finish of each part remains very attractive.

A full overhaul was completed in 2025. The aperture and helicoid continue to operate very smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling works perfectly.

There are a few very light hairline cleaning marks on the inner elements, along with slight deterioration of the coating on some surfaces, but the glass remains clear and bright. For a Japanese L-mount lens of this age, the glass is in very nice condition. Our test shots also produced excellent results.
