Summicron 50mm f2, 2nd version. One of Leitz's most iconic fast standard lenses, finished in black chrome. Leitz product code 11817. Serial number in the 2.33 million range, manufactured in Germany in 1969, the first year of production.
The second-generation Summicron features 6 elements in 5 groups. The minimum focusing distance was reduced to 0.7m with this version, making it more versatile.
Although often overshadowed by the original Summicron, this version also delivers excellent optical performance. The removal of the infinity lock makes handling easier, while the lightweight alloy barrel keeps the weight down to approximately 202g, as measured.
This lens comes from the production batch following the transitional examples in the 2.26, 2.29, and 2.31 million serial number ranges. It retains some early features, including the red alignment dot on the barrel base and certain internal components.
The original box with matching serial number is included. A fine example for collectors as well as photographers.
There is some minor paint loss around the front edge of the lens barrel, but otherwise the lens shows little sign of use and is in very nice cosmetic condition. The lens mount is also clean.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. The aperture and helicoid operate smoothly with a pleasant, well-damped feel. Rangefinder coupling is also spot on!
There is very slight coating deterioration on the front and middle elements, barely visible even under strong LED light. It should have virtually no effect on image quality. Actual shooting tests also produced excellent results.
Comes with the original box with matching serial number, a clean 12585 hood, hood cap, and plastic case.
