The Leica R6, a 35mm SLR camera by Leitz, finished in chrome. Leica product code 10071. Made in Germany.
Introduced in 1989, at the height of the AE and autofocus era, the R6 was already something of a classic even when new: a fully mechanical SLR built around manual operation. The decision to introduce such a deliberately traditional camera must have reflected a continuing demand for this type of photographic tool. Interestingly, its concept fits perfectly with what many film photographers seek today: the pure enjoyment of shooting manually.
The body design follows that of the R4 and R5, offering a compact and highly practical form. Compared with the R5, the shutter-speed dial is taller, making manual operation easier and more intuitive. The exposure meter display in the viewfinder is also clear and easy to read, making the R6 an exceptionally user-friendly camera.
Production numbers were relatively limited.
There are slight rub marks around the tripod socket on the baseplate and on the plastic grip on the right side of the back, but overall, the camera shows very little sign of use and retains a strong like-new appearance. It should pair beautifully with a clean lens.
All functions are working properly. The shutter operates smoothly with a crisp, satisfying sound, and the exposure meter is also functioning accurately.
