The first-generation Leica M Monochrom. This is the Engrave edition, limited to just 30 units for the Japanese market in 2014. As its name suggests, the top plate is engraved with the classic Leica script logo. This engraving certainly gives the camera an even more authentic Leica character.
A groundbreaking camera equipped with a dedicated monochrome CCD sensor, and undoubtedly one of the great digital cameras of its era. The Leica product code is 10787 for the chrome body. Serial number in the 4.35 million range, manufactured in 2014.
The rendering of the CCD-based M Monochrom remains truly unique. Its exceptional tonal richness, smooth gradation, and gentle rendering make photography with this camera an inspiring experience.
This camera is no longer covered by the manufacturer warranty, and our warranty is limited to initial defects only. However, its CCD sensor has already been replaced with the updated version designed to prevent sensor corrosion.
Even today, many photographers still prefer CCD sensors to CMOS. At our shop, CCD-based M Monochrom cameras continue to serve actively both as test cameras and as personal cameras used by our staff.
There are light scuffs on the top and rear of the top cover, as well as on the baseplate. Minor signs of use can also be seen on the leatherette on the left side when viewed from the front, together with slight mounting marks around the lens mount. Overall, it shows little use and is in excellent upper-grade condition, though it falls just short of what we would call a 94% beauty. It would pair beautifully with classic Leica lenses such as a clean Lady Summilux, a rigid Summicron, or an 8-element Summicron.
This camera was in regular use by one of our customers until recently, and all functions are working properly. It has been thoroughly tested by us. Most importantly, the CCD sensor is clean and shows no cleaning marks. The viewfinder is also clear. The shutter count is only approximately 23,000, and the results of our test shooting were excellent.
The original box, instruction manual, charger and power cable, one battery, strap, and body cap are included.
CCD-based M Monochrom cameras in good condition have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years, and this particular example is also a limited-edition model. Do not miss this opportunity.
