The W-Nikkor.C 35mm f2.5 is a wide-angle lens for the Nikon S series. This is the later version, featuring a lightweight aluminum barrel finished in beautiful black paint. Its compact construction keeps the weight down to approximately 110g. The optical design consists of 6 elements in 4 groups in a double-Gauss configuration. The distance scale is marked in feet. This particular example has a small EP mark engraved on the stopper.
Its distinctive tapered barrel gives the lens a sharp, handsome appearance when mounted on a Nikon S-series camera. It is also sufficiently fast, delivering high central resolution even wide open, while the natural falloff toward the edges gives images plenty of character. It is equally enjoyable adapted to a modern mirrorless camera.
The front element is deeply recessed, effectively giving the lens a built-in hood-like design, and it performs very well even without a separate hood. The dedicated hood was apparently sold separately at the time, which perhaps explains why wide-angle hoods for the Nikon S system are so rarely encountered today.
This item was previously sold by our store and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its previous owner. There are only a few very minor rub marks, with virtually no signs of use. The barrel is in beautiful condition.
At the request of the previous owner, a full overhaul was carried out in December 2025. Both the aperture ring and helicoid operate very smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The glass is in beautiful condition, clear and bright with no haze. There is one extremely faint cleaning mark on the front element, but it should have virtually no effect on image quality.
Front and rear caps are included.
