Among the Hektor 28mm lenses produced since 1935, this is from one of the later production batches and differs slightly in design from the earlier versions. The most notable change is the location of the serial number, which was moved from the rear of the lens to the front.
The Hektor 28mm is one of the smallest Leica lenses ever made. Its extremely slim profile looks perfectly at home not only on Barnack Leicas, but also on M-series bodies when used with an M/L adapter ring. However, precisely because of its ultra-thin design, these lenses are rather prone to being dropped, so careful inspection is essential when choosing one.
The pale purple coating helps compensate for one of the Hektor 28mm's weaknesses, its susceptibility to flare in backlit situations. This example benefits greatly from the coating and delivers excellent image quality.
This lens was previously sold by us and has now returned to our shop after being carefully used by its owner.
Its condition remains unchanged from the time of our previous sale, showing virtually no signs of use and presenting a very beautiful appearance. The chrome plating is free from noticeable scratches or scuffs and retains a brilliant shine.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was carried out in 2025. Thanks to the careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid remain smooth and pleasant to operate. Rangefinder coupling is also excellent.
Matching its beautiful exterior, the glass is also exceptionally clean, with no noticeable cleaning marks or haze. The delicate, beautifully tinted coating gives the lens a truly jewel-like appearance.
Thanks in part to this coating, the lens delivers sharp images while keeping unwanted flare well controlled even when shooting toward the light.
