The Summicron 35mm f2 with a chrome barrel, commonly known as the 8-element Summicron. Made in Germany. The Leitz product code was originally SAWOM and later 11308. This example has a serial number in the 2.19 million range and was manufactured in 1966. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7m, and the filter size is E39.
In addition to its superb optical performance, the lens is admired for its functional beauty and the refined design characteristic of classic German industrial products.
Wide open, it produces a soft and gentle rendering. Stopping down slightly brings a pronounced sense of depth and dimensionality, while further stopping down delivers crisp detail without losing its characteristic softness. Leica styling and Leica rendering through and through.
This particular example is exceptionally clean, both externally and optically. The popularity of the 8-element Summicron has continued to grow in recent years, while fine examples become increasingly difficult to find with each passing year.
Compatible original Leitz hoods include the ITDOO and IROOA. The later 12585 and 12504 hoods can also be fitted.

Previously sold by our shop, this lens has been carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us once again.
The barrel shows almost no signs of use and is exceptionally clean, retaining much of its original new-lens appearance. It is rare to encounter an 8-element Summicron in such fine condition.
The lens received a full overhaul in 2025. Thanks to the careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid remain exceptionally smooth to operate. The infinity lock also slips neatly into place with a beautifully smooth action.
There is an extremely minor area of coating deterioration on an internal element, visible only under strong LED light and highly unlikely to affect actual photographs. Otherwise, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze. The results of our test shooting were also excellent.
A UVa filter and the original Leitz front and rear caps are included.
