The Leica IIIg, the final model in the Barnack Leica line. Its Leitz product code is GOOEF.

This example has a serial number in the 870,000 range and was manufactured in 1957. It was born during the golden age of postwar Leitz, in the latter half of the 1950s, when a wealth of fascinating Leica models appeared, including the Leica MP, black-paint M3, military olive models, and the Leica M2.

The IIIg was introduced in 1957, three years after the debut of the Leica M3. Befitting a product from the golden age of Leitz, it was designed and manufactured without compromise, and its exceptional quality is captivating even when simply admired. Technology developed for the Leica M3 was also incorporated, including parallax-corrected bright-line frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses.

The finder provides a superbly clear view, making the IIIg by far the most user-friendly of all Barnack Leicas.

Previously sold by our shop, this camera has been carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us. This will be the third time we have offered it for sale.

There are a few light hairline scratches around the accessory shoe, near the serial number, and on the baseplate, along with slight signs of use on the film advance and strap lugs. There are no dents, dings, or areas of exposed brass, and the camera remains in very clean overall condition.

The original vulcanite covering is also well preserved and offers a pleasantly dry, smooth feel in the hand.

The camera received a full overhaul in 2024 and continues to operate perfectly. The film advance, shutter, self-timer, and all other functions work smoothly.

The viewfinder is clear and bright, and the rangefinder patch has good contrast. A very clean and fully usable body.
