The second-generation Summicron 35mm f2, featuring the six-element optical design. Leica product code 11309. Made in Canada in 1973, with a serial number in the 2.66 million range. This is the later version without the infinity-lock tab. E39 filter size.
Following in the footsteps of the first-generation eight-element version, fine examples of this lens are also becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Although often overshadowed by the eight-element version, this six-element Summicron is a lens packed with both capability and character. Its appeal begins with the well-judged helicoid rotation and the focusing tab that fits naturally beneath the fingertip, followed by its slightly subdued color rendition and detailed yet never overly harsh rendering. Its lightweight and compact form also makes it an ideal match for Leica M cameras.
Previously sold by our shop, this lens has been carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us.
It remains in the same excellent condition as when we last sold it. There is some minor black paint loss along the edges of the aperture ring and the base of the barrel, as well as a few small marks on the mount. Otherwise, it shows little sign of use and retains a very clean appearance. There are no dents or impact marks.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was completed in 2025. Thanks to the careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid remain smooth and nicely damped. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The inner elements show only a few extremely minor pinpoint coating imperfections that are barely visible even under magnification. Otherwise, the glass is beautifully clear, with no haze or cleaning marks. Test shots also produced excellent results.
An aftermarket front cap and a plastic case are included.
