Summicron-R 50mm f2, ROM version. Leica product code 11215. Serial number in the 3.78 million range, made in 1997 in Germany. Built-in lens hood. Modified Gauss-type optical design with 6 elements in 5 groups. Minimum focusing distance is 50cm.
A remarkably easy-to-use standard lens for the Leica R system. The well-regarded rendering of its predecessor, the tapered-barrel Summicron, with its natural and finely detailed image quality, was carried over to this model. Wide open, it retains a gentle softness, while stopping down produces crisp and sharp results.
In 1976, the tapered-barrel Summicron was replaced by this version with a built-in hood. The barrel design became cleaner and the lens was about 40g lighter. This example weighs 317g on our scale.
Compatible filter size is E55.
The exterior is in like-new condition, with virtually no signs of use. The paint inside the built-in hood is also very clean, and the chrome plating on the mount surface retains a beautiful shine.
A full overhaul was completed in September 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the helicoid ring and aperture ring operate smoothly with a pleasantly damped feel.
Matching the beautiful exterior, the glass is also clear and bright, with no haze or noticeable cleaning marks.
Test shooting results were also excellent.
Original front and rear caps, case, and a Marumi UV filter are included.
