This release button was made by Schmidt & Co., the official Leitz distributor in Japan. It was given as a novelty gift to purchasers of Leitz products in the 1970s, and is engraved with SL, the initials of Schmidt & Co.
It is quite common to find this release button included together with a Schmidt & Co. warranty card in boxed, fully working, beautiful-condition pieces from longtime collectors.
Depending on the individual piece, some bubbling can appear in the black-painted areas. This SL release button is made of brass with a black paint finish. Needless to say, it pairs beautifully with black paint Leica M bodies.
With its exquisite size and curvature, it is also a very comfortable release button to use. This example is unused, but has developed a tasteful amount of age-related bubbling, giving it a wonderfully seasoned and characterful presence.
A finish that pairs beautifully with a well-used black paint body. The black-painted areas show some bubbling, but there is no paint loss, and the surface retains a matte texture. The SL lettering has yellowed slightly with age, which is another appealing point.
The price includes domestic shipping.
