The second-generation Summicron 35mm f2, commonly known as the 6-element version. Leica product code 11309. Serial number in the 2.54 million range, manufactured in 1972. The later version without the infinity-lock tab. Made in Canada. E39 filter thread.
Following the first-generation 8-element version, fine examples of this lens are also becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Although often overshadowed by the 8-element Summicron, the 6-element version is a lens packed with both capability and charm. Its moderately short helicoid rotation and finger-friendly focusing tab make it a pleasure to use, while its slightly subdued colour rendition and detailed yet never overly harsh rendering give it a distinctive character.
Weighing just 180g and exceptionally compact, it pairs beautifully with Leica M cameras.
Previously sold by our store, this lens has been carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us. This will be the third time we have offered it for sale.
Its condition remains unchanged since the previous sale. There is only the slightest paint loss on the focusing tab and along the edge of its base. Otherwise, the black finish remains deep and rich throughout, and the lens presents beautifully.
It received a full overhaul in 2024, including focus adjustment. Thanks to the careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid remain smooth, and the rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The inner lens element shows very slight coating deterioration, visible only under a powerful LED light. This is at a level that should have virtually no effect on actual photography.
There are no noticeable cleaning marks, and the original coating remains well preserved on all lens surfaces. The results of our latest test shooting were also very good.
Included are the serial-number-matched original box, 12504 hood, and genuine front and rear caps. Also highly recommended for a collection.
