A Rolleiflex 3.5F Type 3 with a coupled exposure meter. Its serial number is in the 2.26 million range, dating it to around 1960–1964. The original focusing screen is a full matte type with grid lines.
Like the 2.8F, the 3.5F was available with either a Planar or Xenotar lens. Both are highly regarded, and it is difficult to say that one is definitively superior to the other. This example is fitted with the Xenotar, which is often described as offering slightly higher contrast and somewhat softer bokeh. The 75mm focal length also provides an exceptionally well-balanced angle of view.
The higher-end 2.8F is undoubtedly a superb camera, but for outdoor photography, the 3.5F offers more than sufficient lens speed together with an exceptionally practical focal length. For photographers who place priority on actual use, it may well be the more compelling choice.
Meticulously built during the golden age of camera manufacturing, the 3.5F allows the owner to fully appreciate the exceptional quality and refinement for which Rolleiflex, the pinnacle of twin-lens reflex cameras, is renowned.
Previously sold by our shop, this camera has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner.
There is some paint loss on the corners of the focusing hood and along the edges of the body, as well as a few light scratches on the clear cover of the exposure meter. Otherwise, the exterior is clean, with no noticeable scratches or dents.
Fully overhauled in 2026. The film advance crank, a key part of the Rolleiflex operating experience, works exceptionally smoothly and lightly. The exposure meter also remains sufficiently accurate for practical use.
When examined under a strong LED light, the taking lens shows only the faintest signs of coating deterioration, but this is unlikely to have any noticeable effect on actual photographs. There are no cleaning marks or haze, and none of the balsam separation sometimes seen in Xenotar-equipped 3.5F cameras. The glass remains in excellent condition, allowing the lens to deliver its original performance.
A diffuser, third-party lens cap, two original Rolleiflex straps, one period brown leather version and one later black version, an RII hood with case, and the camera case are included.
