11817. Serial number in the 2.45 million range, made in 1970. This is the second-generation Summicron 50mm, redesigned in 1969, with a 6-element construction in 5 groups. From this second version onward, the minimum focusing distance was shortened to 0.7m.

Although often overshadowed by the first-generation Summicron, this is an excellent performer in its own right. The removal of the infinity lock also improved handling, while the lightweight alloy barrel keeps the weight down to approximately 200g. A highly practical lens for everyday use.

Recommended for anyone seeking a second-generation Summicron in fine condition.

Previously sold by our shop, this lens has been carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us in the same fine condition as when it was last sold. This will be the third time we have offered it for sale.

Apart from very slight rubbing around the filter rim from attaching and removing the hood, the exterior shows little sign of use and remains very clean. The included 12585 hood is also in excellent condition.

There is an extremely faint cleaning mark in the center of the rear element, but it should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. Otherwise, there are no noticeable scratches or haze, and the glass is beautifully clear and bright.

A full overhaul was completed in 2024. The aperture ring, which can often feel loose on the six-element Summicron, now operates with a smooth and well-damped feel. The helicoid is also exceptionally smooth, ensuring effortless, stress-free focusing. Rangefinder coupling is excellent from close range to infinity, with spot-on focus throughout the entire distance range.

The six-element Summicron was once a common sight in camera shops, but fine examples have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years. Do not miss this opportunity.
