Hektor 5cm f2.5 with a chrome barrel. Serial number in the 160,000 range, manufactured in 1933. The Leitz code is HEKTORCHROM. Distance scale in feet. The optical design consists of 6 elements in 3 groups, a modified triplet design with all groups cemented. Uncoated.
Despite its relatively fast f2.5 aperture, it is compact and lightweight, and was Leica’s first collapsible high-speed lens. The helicoid number is 0.
Wide open and around maximum aperture, it delivers a soft rendering rich in classic vintage-lens character. Many Hektors have been improperly polished or have inaccurate focus, particularly examples that have been serviced overseas, so this is a lens we inspect very carefully when purchasing stock. This example does have some scratches on the front element, but focus is accurate and it can be used with confidence.

Rare.
The barrel shows general signs of use, including scuffs and some wear to the chrome plating. Overall, the exterior condition is fairly good for a Hektor 5cm.
A full overhaul was completed in September 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid now operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is also accurate, and the results of our test shots were good.
The front element shows a fair amount of cleaning marks and age-related discoloration of the glass. Some effect may be noticeable when shooting against the light or under strong light sources. Using a lens hood should help reduce this effect.
