Leica DII / IIf

※About rarity

This is a Leica DII from 1932 that was later upgraded by Leitz to Leica IIf specifications. This was an official Leitz factory conversion, commonly referred to overseas as a Factory Conversion. The serial number is in the 90,000 range.

Thanks to the upgrade, it retains the compact body size of the earlier sheet-metal Leica era while gaining more practical features such as a 1/1000 sec shutter speed, diopter adjustment, flash synchronization, and strap lugs.

The body has a black-and-chrome finish, often referred to as semi-chrome. It looks especially striking with chrome-finished lenses such as a collapsible Summicron, a screw-mount Summilux 50mm f1.4, or a Summaron. A tasteful and highly appealing model for the experienced Leica enthusiast.

This camera was acquired from a German collector during our European buying trip in the summer of 2019. After changing hands over the years, it has now found its way back to us. Welcome home!

A slight amount of brass is showing through on areas frequently touched by the fingers, but overall there are only minimal signs of use and the camera remains in very clean condition. There are no dents or impacts. The black paint retains a beautiful luster, while the chrome-plated parts still shine brightly.

All functions have been checked. Film advance and shutter operation both feel good. The finder is clear, and the rangefinder double image has good contrast.

It retains the compact appearance of the DII while offering the greater practicality of the IIf, making it a Leica that is equally enjoyable to admire and to use.

With the wide variety of chrome-finished lenses available, this is a particularly appealing camera for street photography and everyday shooting. It would also make a fine addition to a collection.
