Among Leitz lenses, it is the second thinnest after the Hektor 28mm. Its compact size makes it highly portable not only on Barnack Leicas, but also on Leica M bodies. It is easy to slip one more lens into your camera bag.
Wide open, it produces atmospheric images with noticeable fall-off toward the edges. Its rendering is orthodox at first glance, but the more you use it, the more depth and character you discover. It is a lens that never becomes boring. This example has a pale blue coating, which should help produce calmer rendering in backlit situations and scenes with strong light.
A classic Leica wide-angle lens that has remained popular for many years, and one that has been receiving renewed attention in recent years.
The matching lens hoods are the FLQOO and FOOKH. Our own FB-07 Elmar hood with aperture control function can also be used.

There are somewhat more small scratches around the base of the barrel. The name ring is free from noticeable scratches or distortion, and the chrome plating on the barrel remains in good condition. Overall, the exterior is quite clean.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was completed in September 2026. Careful servicing has left the aperture, helicoid, and other controls operating very smoothly. The rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.
The front element shows a fair number of cleaning marks. These may have a slight effect under strong backlighting. Otherwise, there is no fungus or haze, and test shots showed good results.
