This is an early Leica I Model A from 1928 that was upgraded by Leitz after the war to Leica II specifications. It is an official Leitz factory modification, commonly referred to overseas as a Factory Conversion. The serial number is 93xx, a four-digit serial number.
As part of the conversion, the various fittings and components were most likely changed from nickel to chrome. The most authentic lens pairing would be an early Elmar with a chrome finish.
The combination of black paint and chrome plating greatly expands the range of suitable lens choices. For photographers who do not require slow shutter speeds, the body shape provides excellent handling. Better still, it is fitted with strap lugs and diopter adjustment, making it ideal for practical use as well.
Rather than simply a Leica II, it might be more fitting to call it a Leica II.5.
There are minor areas of paint loss and touch-up repairs around the edges of the top cover and other parts of the upper body, but the paint finish and chrome plating remain in good condition. This is a very clean example, especially for a Leica DII.
All functions operate properly. The rangefinder shows a very slight haze, but it remains fully usable. Optional servicing is available at an additional cost upon request.
Includes the original Leica body cap.
