A Schmidt Shoten-branded lens hood made for Leica lenses by Schmidt & Co., the former Leitz distributor in Japan. The Schmidt Shoten Tokyo engraving on the side gives this hood a particularly charming appearance.
It is said that Schmidt accessories evolved through the names Schmidt Shoten, Schmidt & Co., THE LEICA TOKYO, and ACTINA, suggesting that this is an early example.
This hood was modelled after the original Leica FISON and is designed for the collapsible Elmar 50mm with an A36 diameter. Like the original, it attaches with a screw clamp.
When tightened, the base feels as though it flexes slightly, and the overall finish has a somewhat inexpensive quality. The fact that it falls just short of Leitz craftsmanship somehow makes it all the more endearing.
A rare lens hood.
It shows slight signs of use, but the plating remains in good condition and the overall cosmetic condition is very good. Tested for proper fit on A36 lenses.
