This large-aperture wide-angle lens is one of Leitz’s most iconic classics, a long-selling model produced for more than 30 years from the original Steel Rim generation onward. The optical design consists of 7 elements in 5 groups, and the minimum focusing distance is approximately 90cm. The compatible hood is the two-piece 12504, which allows a Series 7 filter to be held between the hood sections.
A true Leica 35mm standard that can handle almost any situation. Around full aperture, it produces a soft, gentle rendering. Stopping down slightly brings out a much stronger sense of three-dimensionality. Stopped down further, it draws sharp, beautiful lines while retaining a calm and atmospheric quality.
Compared with the Summicron, its lines are finer, giving it a more delicate rendering. Combining the charm of a classic lens with real practical usability, this is a highly refined lens that also pairs beautifully with modern digital Leica M cameras.
This is an item previously sold by our store. It has returned to us in the same condition as when we last sold it, having been carefully used by its previous owner.
There is slight loss of the black chrome finish on the aperture control tab and some of the edges, but there are no noticeable scuffs or scratches, and the exterior remains quite clean.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was carried out in 2022. Thanks to the careful servicing, both the aperture and helicoid operate very smoothly, and the lens still feels excellent in use. Rangefinder coupling is also good, and focus is accurate.
The glass shows only extremely minor coating deterioration, visible only when illuminated with a strong LED light, and this should have virtually no effect on actual images. Our test shots also produced good results.
