A rear lens cap for Leica L-mount lenses supplied by Schmidt Shokai, the official Leica distributor in Japan. Made of brass with a black paint finish. The inside of the cap is engraved SCHMIDT SHOTEN TOKYO.
The company name appears to have changed over time from Schmidt Shoten to Schmidt Shokai, then to THE LEICA TOKYO, and finally to ACTINA.
Schmidt Shokai was an import trading company founded by Paul Schmidt in 1896, the 29th year of the Meiji era. It began as an importer and distributor of Swiss and German precision machinery, scientific instruments, and medical equipment, and later became the Japanese distributor for Leitz. The company is said to have imported its first Leica in 1925, the 14th year of the Taisho era: a Leica Model A fitted with an Elmax lens, serial number 377.
This cap is virtually identical to the original Leica version. It may have been manufactured in Germany and then stamped locally before being supplied in Japan.
In good condition with little sign of use. Some small to medium-sized spots of paint bubbling are visible. Tested and confirmed to fit Leica lenses.
The price includes consumption tax and domestic shipping within Japan.
