A yellow filter for 5cm Elmar lenses, sold by Schmidt Shoten, the official Leitz distributor in Japan. Unlike the clamp-on type, this filter has a screw-in mount. It is a No. 2 medium-density filter and is equivalent to the Leitz FIRMY.

Every detail is exceptionally elaborate, rivaling the quality of Leitz’s own products. The precision of the metalwork, the fitting of the glass, the paint finish, and the engraving all demonstrate remarkably careful craftsmanship. It is impressive to see such painstaking attention devoted to a single filter. The workmanship is so thoroughly executed that it could almost be mistaken for a Leitz product. Indeed, its construction is so superb that one cannot help wondering whether Schmidt commissioned Leitz to manufacture it.

Made before the war. This is the first example we have ever encountered. A rare item.

It shows no signs of use and is in exceptionally clean cosmetic condition. Although there is some age-related deterioration, there is no visible wear from use. The glass is also free from any noticeable cleaning marks or haze. A superb piece for a collection!
