Leitz Quick Tripod Fix, product code SDOOG.

A small attachment designed for quickly mounting and removing a camera from a tripod with a single action. A beautifully made little accessory with an attractive nickel-plated finish.

Produced in small numbers from 1936 to 1949, with chrome versions also available. The outer diameter is 30mm.

This particular example is the rarer early version of the SDOOG, engraved Ernst Leitz Wetzlar on the underside. Later versions feature the hexagonal E.LEITZ logo.

The unit separates into two sections, with the upper section attached to the camera and the lower section mounted on the tripod. Pressing the two protruding tabs firmly allows the sections to be attached or detached. The springs are quite strong, so a good firm push is required, but the mechanism has that precise and reassuring feel so characteristic of Leitz products.

Superbly made. Leitz accessories from this era are exceptionally well finished, and even simply admiring them is a pleasure. Pair it with a rare small nickel tripod head and enjoy the combination to your heart’s content!

A rare find.

There are some signs of rubbing on the bottom.

A considerable amount of force is required to separate the two parts, but this is as it should be, since it must not come apart accidentally. Every SDOOG we have handled in the past has had the same firm and tight fit.

The felt that comes into contact with the camera body also remains in good condition.

A fine piece for both practical use and collection!
