※About rarity

An early version of the Summicron-R 35mm f2 for the Leicaflex, commonly known as the tapered Summicron. This is from the second production batch of the 9-element Summicron. Serial number in the 2.46 million range, made in 1970 by Leitz Canada. 9 elements in 7 groups.

It has been converted to 3-cam specification and can also be used with Leica R-series cameras. The coatings show amber and purple tones.

Quite the opposite of the modern trend toward smaller and lighter lenses, this is a large and substantial lens, but one renowned for its impressive rendering. Another welcome feature is its close focusing distance of just 30cm.

英訳です。

There is some black paint loss along the edges of the barrel, including the helicoid and aperture rings, but no noticeable scratches or scuffs. Overall, it is in relatively good cosmetic condition for a Leica R lens.

A full overhaul was completed in August 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the helicoid and aperture rings operate smoothly with a pleasantly damped feel.

There is a very slight deterioration of the coating that is only visible under a strong LED light, but it should have virtually no effect on actual images. Otherwise, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is very clean, clear and bright. Enjoy the dramatic rendering characteristic of this early tapered Summicron.
