Leica DIII. Serial number in the 110,000 range, made in 1933. Leitz product code AFOOV. Black paint and nickel-plated finish. Overseas, it is also known as the Model F or Leica III. The tripod socket is the large-thread type.
The previous DII was Leica’s first camera with a built-in rangefinder. With the DIII, diopter adjustment was added, along with strap lugs and slow shutter speeds. It is a highly complete Barnack Leica in terms of functionality, and also an excellent camera for practical use. The maximum shutter speed is 1/500 second.
With its size that fits neatly in the hand, and the calm, soothing appearance of black paint and nickel, this camera has a truly charming presence. Pair it with a nickel lens, and it is a joy both to shoot with and to admire. Long loved by many enthusiasts, this is a Leica that truly appeals to the senses.
There is a very slight dent near the center of the bottom cover, but it is not noticeable. Some brass is showing here and there, but the exterior has a clean appearance, with the beautiful, deep gloss of piano black paint.
This camera was used practically by one of our customers until recently. All functions have been checked. The winding action feels good, and the shutter sound is crisp and healthy. There is a small amount of dust inside the finder, but it does not affect visibility. The rangefinder window has a slightly bluish view, but the double image is clearly visible.
This is a practical black and nickel DIII, perfect for those who want to use it without hesitation.
