In recent years, Leica unexpectedly released a reissue of the Steel Rim, which attracted a great deal of attention, but this is the original.

7 elements in 5 groups. Around wide open, it produces beautiful, dreamlike glow that seems almost veiled, while stopping down brings remarkably sharp rendering. When stopped down slightly, its clear, three-dimensional rendering is particularly impressive.
Every generation of the Summilux has its own appeal, but the style and construction of this Steel Rim are exceptional. Fitted with its dedicated OLLUX hood, it is one of the most striking-looking Leitz lenses. The chrome Steel Rim looks equally at home not only on chrome bodies, but also on black paint and black chrome bodies.
Rare.
There are only extremely minor signs of rubbing on the mount surface, but otherwise there are hardly any signs of use, and the exterior is in very clean condition. The matte bead-blasted chrome finish retains its beautiful texture, with no noticeable scratches or dents.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was carried out in August 2026. Thanks to this careful servicing, the aperture and helicoid operate with an excellent feel, allowing you to concentrate on shooting without distraction. Rangefinder coupling is also accurate.
There is a stain on one of the inner elements that could not be removed by cleaning. When viewed under a strong LED light, it appears as a faint haze-like area approximately 1.5 cm in diameter, but it should have little effect on actual photographs. Otherwise, there are no cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is clear and bright.

Around wide open, fine and delicate lines can be seen within the softly rendered image. Stopping down by one or two stops gradually reduces the flare, while the lens retains its distinctive, slightly moist-looking rendering and creates a beautiful atmosphere. By around f5.6, the character changes dramatically to a crisp, rich rendering. It is a fine lens that offers many different ways to enjoy its character and is rewarding to master.
