Summilux-M 35mm f1.4. This is the reissue of the first-generation Summilux 35mm, introduced in 1961 and still highly sought after today, with prices continuing to rise. It is commonly known as the Steel Rim.
Released in 2022. Serial number in the 4.83 million range. Leica product code 11301.
In addition to the optical design, the original dedicated OLLUX hood has also been faithfully recreated. The filter size has been changed from E41 on the original Steel Rim to E46.
Compared with the original Summilux 35mm Steel Rim, this reissue shows less peripheral smearing from wide open and delivers a more well-balanced image. Even so, the wonderfully soft atmosphere near full aperture remains intact. This is a lens that is truly enjoyable to shoot with.
Literally in like-new condition. No signs of use can be seen. It is so beautiful that it would be hard to tell apart from a brand-new one.
Both the aperture ring and helicoid operate smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on around wide open with this example. It delivers wonderfully atmospheric rendering. When stopped down by about two stops, it tends to focus slightly behind at close distances due to focus shift. In our experience, this is often seen with this lens. For scenes where you will be shooting at f4 or smaller apertures, we recommend using live view.
The glass is beautifully clear, with no haze, cleaning marks, or other issues visible. Please enjoy its original rendering to the fullest.
Now that the original Steel Rim has become difficult to find and very expensive, this reissue with its classical design makes a very appealing choice.
Comes with the E46 screw-in 12486 hood, the OLLUX reissue 12487 hood, front and rear caps, inspection certificate, instruction manual, pouch, and original box. The 12486 hood has one small mark, but aside from that, everything is in beautiful like-new condition.
