Elmar 50mm f3.5 with a nickel-finished barrel. Leitz product code ELMAR. Serial number in the 150,000 range, manufactured in 1932. This example was coated by Leitz at a later date, with a pale blue and purple coating. The coating should help improve performance in backlit situations. Distance scale in meters. Rangefinder coupled. Helicoid number 6.
This is the New Elmar from the era of the Leica DII and DIII, featuring 4 elements in 3 groups. One of Leica's most iconic standard lenses, the Elmar has captured countless lives and events across borders and generations.
Even in today's digital age, this classic lens still has plenty to offer. A wonderful lens for those who enjoy pairing cameras and lenses from different generations.
Light scuffs can be seen in various areas. While the lens shows signs of use consistent with its age, it has a pleasing appearance, ideal for practical use.
Fully overhauled in October 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate smoothly with a pleasant feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on, and focusing accuracy is excellent.
The front element shows a few light cleaning marks and slight coating deterioration, but these should have virtually no effect on image quality. No signs of fungus or haze are present, and actual shooting tests produced good results.
The matte black lacquer inside the lens barrel has also been carefully reapplied to reduce internal reflections, promising improved contrast.
A practical nickel-finished New Elmar, ready to use with confidence.
