Leica Universal Finder VIOOH, commonly known as the VIDOM with upright image. A classic Leica finder produced over a long period from around 1938 to 1964.
This example is the rare version with a black painted nose section, known in Japan as Saki-kuro, and overseas as the Black Nose. It is also featured on page 22 of James Lager’s book, Leica An Illustrated History Vol. III Accessories.
The parallax compensation dial is marked in meters. Switchable frame lines for 35/50/73/90/135mm lenses. Old E.LEITZ logo, non-serial-number type.
The included case is absolutely charming. It bears the Photo Selection Paris stamp, perhaps a dedicated case made by a Paris dealer for the Imarect finder. The leather color, stitching, and button details are all wonderfully stylish. Acquired from a collector living in France.
reviously sold by our shop, this item has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner.
It must have seen plenty of action over the years, as the exterior shows significant signs of use, with black paint loss and plating wear visible throughout.
The optics were cleaned and the finder regreased in 2023, and the view through the finder remains beautifully bright and clear.
A rare Black Nose VIOOH, recommended as a practical user item.
