Leica Tele-Elmar 135mm f4, a telephoto lens for the Leica system. Leitz product code 11851. Serial number in the 2.04 million range, manufactured in 1964. Although officially introduced in 1965, this example is among the very earliest production pieces. A sharp-looking early red scale version. 3 groups, 5 elements. Straight-pull focusing helicoid. Somewhat rare.
Among Leica M rangefinder-coupled lenses, it boasts the longest focal length. The lens head can be detached for use with the Visoflex system. Minimum focusing distance is 1.5m, and the filter size is E39. Compatible hood is the IUFOO/12575.
A rather scarce red-letter Tele-Elmar. It would make a striking match on period Leica M3 or M2 black paint bodies from the same era.
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now found its way back to us after being carefully used by its owner.
There are small pinpoint paint losses scattered around the knurled sections of the aperture ring and focusing helicoid. In addition, there is a small scratch beside the depth-of-field scale on the barrel. Other than that, very little noticeable wear can be seen, and the barrel remains in remarkably clean condition.
Originally owned and carefully used by one of our customers, this example still offers excellent focusing accuracy and perfect rangefinder coupling.
The helicoid action feels ever so slightly on the heavy side, though it remains fully practical for normal use. We can also provide servicing for an additional fee if desired.
The glass shows two extremely faint cleaning marks near the edge of the front element, but they should have virtually no effect on actual photography. There is no haze, and the optics are overall beautifully clear and crisp. The results from our test shooting were also excellent.
