An uncoated Elmar 35mm f/3.5. Product code EKURZ. Serial number in the 570,000 range, manufactured in 1941. The helicoid distance scale is in meters. 4 elements in 3 groups.
Among Leitz lenses, it is the second thinnest after the Hektor 28mm. Of course it is a perfect match for Barnack Leicas, but even when mounted on an M-series Leica, its compactness gives it excellent mobility. It is an easy extra lens to slip into your camera bag.
Wide open, it delivers atmospheric rendering with some peripheral fall-off. While orthodox in character, the more you use it, the more depth you discover. It is a timeless Leica wide-angle lens that has long been loved by photographers, and in recent years it has been enjoying renewed appreciation.
Suitable hoods are FLQOO or FOOKH. Our original Flashback Camera FB-07 hood for Elmar lenses, with aperture control function, can also be used.
It shows little sign of use and is in good cosmetic condition. The chrome plating is also in good condition. There is some plating loss and rubbing on the back side of the helicoid knob. On the mount surface, the number 9636 appears to have been lightly inscribed with a very fine scribe mark. Please rest assured that this has no effect on use or mounting/removal.
Fully overhauled in June 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, all operations, including the aperture and helicoid, are now very smooth. The rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The front element has some shallow cleaning marks, and there is one pinpoint-sized area of balsam separation at the very edge of the rear element. At first glance, it looks rather like an air bubble sometimes seen in older lenses. Neither should have any practical effect on photography. The results of our test shoot were also excellent.
Please enjoy the character of this uncoated Elmar, with its gentle color rendering.
Non-original front and rear caps are included.
