※About rarity

A legendary Hugo Meyer lens, the Makro-Plasmat 75mm f2.7, converted to the highly versatile M42 mount. This Makro-Plasmat 7.5cm is believed to have been made around 1933 for the VP Exakta, a 4x6.5cm format camera using 127 film.

The optical construction consists of 6 elements in 5 groups. The Plasmat design was invented by Dr. Paul Rudolph, who also designed the Planar and Tessar.

A rare piece.

There are some minor rub marks and paint loss from use, but considering that more than 90 years have passed since it was made, it remains in quite nice condition. It is clear that this lens has been well cared for over the years.

A full overhaul was completed in September 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate very smoothly. The helicoid used for the conversion goes slightly beyond infinity, but this causes no practical issues.

The front element has some minor cleaning marks and slight discoloration of the glass, but these should have virtually no effect on actual images. Otherwise, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is in good condition for a prewar lens. Our shooting test also produced very good results.

Due to the characteristics of the Macro Plasmat, it is rather sensitive to backlight, so we recommend using a lens hood when shooting. Sample images are available in our Test Shoot Gallery. We tested the lens from around wide open to approximately f8. Whether used wide open or stopped down, this is a lens capable of truly beautiful rendering.

Included are a 32mm slip-on lens hood originally intended for Voigtländer cameras from the 1950s and 1960s, such as the Vito series, along with third-party front and rear caps.
